O'Neil she was still in high school years during the auditions, tried out for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. She was able to advance to the top 100 round because the judges were thrilled by her vocal performance. O'Neil had received high praise by the jury. She suffered major defeats in the top 10 week and Top 9 week of the finals. She was placed on the third row, followed by the in the bottom two. They were stunned by the decision and informed the crowd the fact that Melissa was the most talented contestant.
